Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) is a multi-profile higher education and research institution with a solid tradition of close EU and transnational cooperation, established in 1939. University has 8 faculties including Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Food Technology, Environment and Civil Engineering, Forest, Information Technologies, Economics and Social Sciences. Besides the traditional study fields, LLU also provides multiform unique study programmes related to advanced agriculture, veterinary medicine, food production, forestry and landscape architecture. Significant part of the programmes provided is available as on-line courses. Latvia University of Agriculture is the only higher agricultural education establishment in Latvia and is therefore supported financially and institutionally by the Ministry of Agriculture. LLU aims to promote intellectual potential for rural development in agriculture; encourage young people to acquire higher academic and professional education; develop research; contribute to the cultural development; study, maintain and perfect the gained experience from the Latvian people and pass it over to the future generations.

Its activities consist of training, management consulting, quality assurance, evaluation and development of ICT solutions for both private and public sector. IDEC has been active the last 20 years in the field of EU projects. Business and Innovation Centre INNOBRIDGE (“BIC INNOBRIDGE”) is a business support organization, which follows the methodology, collective experience and applies the know-how of the European Business and Innovation Centers Network (EBN). It is the first (and still the only one) accredited BIC by the EBN network in Bulgaria. It is an NGO association performing awareness raising activities on innovative issues and striving to contribute to the development and the competitiveness of the business on all its stages. Its main goal is to provide European-quality services to its clients in order to help them develop their innovative idea/ business, thus contributing not only to the improvement of the business climate and to the enhancement of the competitiveness, but also to the economic growth of the region. It provides services to clients within the Ruse Region but is also very well connected to neighbouring geographic areas due to the fact that Ruse is bordering to Romania and thus BIC INNOBRIDGE links customers on an international level.

The Association for Vertical Farming e.V.(AVF) is an internationally active nonprofit organization of over 300 individuals, companies (multinationals to start-ups), research institutions and universities focusing on advancing Vertical Farming (VF) technologies, designs and businesses. Founded and registered in Munich, Germany in July 2013 as a nonprofit organisation, with a working and volunteer staff of now 30 experts in UA/VF, leading the divisions (6) and project groups (10) of AVF. A high level advisory board provides advice and support to AVF staff’s work. AVF’s mission is to lead and advance the sustainable growth and development of the vertical farming movement - globally. AVF has a worldwide network of members reaching from Asia, Europe, South & North America, Australia to Africa. AVF organizes events like workshops, conferences and VF info days, conducts research, publishes industry white papers and engineering studies, conducts policy advocacy at the EU commission and develops education around the subject of Urban and Vertical Farming. And last but not least, to support this all, AVF has built some hydroponic A-frames and an open-source plusfarm, and will build many more.

Union “Farmers’ Parliament” (ZSA)

Union “Farmers’ Parliament” (ZSA) is the voice of Latvian farming sector. It provides professional representation and services not only to its members – farms which produce more than 50% of Latvian crop and more than 30% of dairy produce, but also to all Latvia farming society. Currently the organization has ~900 members – economically active farmers. It is the main agriculture lobby institution with long lasting, highly successful and professional ties in rural development sector both in Latvia and European Union (EU and government institutions, rural NGOs, sector service institutions, SMEs, education institutions, experts). ZSA has extensive experience in developing and providing knowledge transfer, innovation development, education and information services to the farming community. Organization is actively involved in the development of the education system in the agriculture sector, as well as the legislative framework for rural entrepreneurship and development.
